As we approach the closing of another school year, we often find ourselves thinking ahead to the next school year. What strategies can we put in place? What programs are available to make our departments better? What new ideas will allow us to move forward? We wonder what a Systems and Security partner might have created recently, or what have our federal partners developed or learned. We wonder if monies or grants are available to lessen the financial load. We consider that the new "young stars" might have different thoughts, ideas, or a vision to share. All these and other thoughts keep us awake at night trying to make sure our school systems are as safe as possible. And finally we wonder: Where can we go to talk, to meet, to share thoughts and ideas? Well, what better place than America's oldest school safety organization?
NASSLEO was established with the intent of networking so that questions like these could be addressed. Many years of security experience is stored in the heads of our members who have dedicated their lives to making our schools safer. Many of them have twenty, thirty, or more years in the industry. Would you benefit from a conversation with one of them? Wouldn't we all? Networking is a major part of what we do - and so is presenting a first-rate conference.
I encourage you to meet many of NASSLEO'S members at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel in Philadelphia, the "City of Brotherly Love," for our 39th Annual Conference, July 14-16, 2008. This is shaping up to be a great conference like the one we had in Colorado Springs last summer (you can read about both conferences on our website at www.nassleo.org. The registration form and hotel link is there, also). Our host this year, Commander Augustine Pescatore, of the Philadelphia School District, and his team, has spent countless hours putting this conference together making it another "You should have been there" kind of experience. The surveys taken last year were very favorable and the attendee comments were used to improve this conference.
So c'mon down, and bring the family. Experience what NASSLEO and Philly have to offer. See Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the homes of Betsy Ross and Ben Franklin. Until then, NASSLEO remains your partner in school safety and we look forward to seeing you in the cradle of liberty, Philadelphia, for NASSLEO 2008!
Larry Hill,
President
